In-Person/Online
Both online and in-person lessons are available. In the case of illness or temporary scheduling conflicts, having an online option has proven indispensable.
ZOOM Settings
*Please ensure that your Zoom app is updated regularly.

And this one is for iPads/iPhones: https://www.violinteachingresources.com/zoom-settings-for-online-music-lessons-ipad/
Camera Placement:
Please place your computer/device/camera to the right of the keyboard, far enough back that I can see the student’s hands and profile/face, and elevated so that the individual keys are visible.
Minimizing Background Noise:
One downfall of the online platform is that background noise can actually cancel out the sound we want to hear (the piano!). If your piano is in a central location in the household, please be mindful to minimize this noise as much as possible. Students also need to resist the urge to “noodle” on the keyboard, as this will make it very difficult for them to hear instructions.
Parental Involvement:
For students 10 and under it is important that a parent be present during the lesson. Students may require technical assistance (for example, muting or unmuting). Also, although I will provide detailed lesson notes, it helps to see what your child is learning and to hear tips or certain wording used in lessons that you can adopt during practices. There will be times, particularly with younger students, that I’ll need you to “be my hands” and direct your child’s fingers to the correct places on the keyboard.
Preparation:
Please make sure all lesson materials are ready to go before the lesson starts. Students should have a pencil within reach so that they can add any necessary notes to their music.
What if….?
In the case of extreme connectivity issues during a lesson, I will ask students to video record and send me their pieces/technical exercises and I will give feedback and assignments via email/video.
Please don’t hesitate to ask me if you have any questions or concerns.
Audio settings:
- Uncheck “Automatically adjust microphone volume”
- Under Audio Profile, check “Original Sound for Musicians”
- “High fidelity music mode” should be checked
- "Echo cancellation" should be unchecked
